Three awards for Glassworks at AEAF 2022

Our team was awarded two golds and a silver at the Australian Effects & Animation Festival

We’re thrilled to share that Glassworks has won three awards at the 2022 Australian Effects & Animation Festival (AEAF). Our team took home two golds – one for the animated title sequence of ‘Piratas en Baleares’ and another one for the Augmented Reality used in the medical series ‘Your Body Uncovered’. To top it off, our VFX work for Barilla’s campaign ‘Pasta is Born Again’ was awarded a silver in the ‘Commercials VFX’ category.

Directed by Javier Verdugo, Head of 3D at our Barcelona office, the opening of ‘Piratas en Baleares’ brilliantly introduces the docuseries made by Canal Historia and IB3. Prowling pirate ships, the islands’ defence mechanisms and the battles that inevitably followed are given life in this fully 3D animation. As a proud work from Glassworks Creative Studio, we couldn’t be happier with the gold award in the ‘Titles and Openers’ category.

The second gold was granted to the eye-opening BBC series ‘Your Body Uncovered’ in the ‘Augmented Reality’ category, rewarding Glassworks’ work in emerging technologies and in the medical field. Our London team worked hard for over a year on the show’s innovative AR, recreating accurate representations of patients’ illnesses and showcasing the treatment choices available to them.

Lastly, Barilla’s ‘Pasta is Born Again’ received the silver award in the ‘Commercials VFX’ category. Using a mix of 3D, 2D and in-camera work, our team helped create a stunning Big Bang of flavour in this launch campaign for Barilla's Al Bronzo pasta. CGI pasta fields and celestial bodies feature alongside real-life water and colourful clouds, all blended in with cosmic 2D backgrounds and 3D textures.

From the AEAF website: “AEAF is an international competition and screening, now in its 24th year with entries from around the world. The Awards are given for creative and technical excellence in the use of visual effects and animation in the creation of screened work. The judging criteria include the technical skill, artistry and quality of the visual effects and animation, their appropriateness within the project as a whole, and their contribution to storytelling.”
